Acting on a CrimeStoppers tip, CMPD officers located and arrested LaQuail Jerome Wallace on outstanding warrants for armed robbery and kidnapping.
On June 16th, Wallace and two other suspects entered a house robbed the resident of their vehicle at gunpoint. CMPD Robbery detectives are continuing to investigate the case to determine the identities and whereabouts of the other two suspects.
Early today, North Tryon division officers received the CrimeStoppers tip information that Mr. Wallace was in a room at the Roadway Inn at Sugar Creek and I-85. They established a containment area around the motel and contacted CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) for assistance and surveillance.
At approximately 8:00 am, when Mr. Wallace exited the room and got into a vehicle, VCAT along with the Helicopter and K-9 units followed. Wallace jumped and ran from the vehicle in which he had been riding on Carlyle Drive but the Helicopter Unit was able to keep Mr. Wallace in sight and after a short foot pursuit, officers took him into custody without incident.
