CMPD on Lookout for Suspect in University-Area Robbery

Zohaib Khan

Authorities in Charlotte are trying to locate the suspect in an armed robbery in the University area that took place on August 26. Twenty year-old Zohaib Khan is accused of using a pistol to rob an 18 year-old man during a drug deal.

The victim admitted that he had traveled to the Piedmont of Ivy Meadow apartments to buy drugs from Khan. The apartments are off of Old Concord Road near its intersection with East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

CMPD has released a photo of Khan from 2010 and announced that he could be in the areas of Charlotte, Kannapolis, or Concord. Khan is described as being 5'7" tall and weighing around 150 pounds. 25th Offender to Remove Electronic Monitor Sought by Police

Authorities in Charlotte are attempting to located 19 year-old Channing Avery Banks after he cut off his electronic monitoring device Tuesday. He is currently being sought by CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

Banks faces charges of interfering with an electronic monitoring device,  larceny, and possession of stolen property. He was released from jail on August 28 and had worn the monitoring device from that day on.

Banks weighs about 150 pounds and is 5'10" tall. He was last seen near his Cates Street home, which is located near West 5th Street. Banks makes the 25th person to remove their monitor this year. The previous 24 suspects that removed their monitor were all caught by police.

CMPD Catches Monitor-Removing Fugitive

Fifty-one year-old Keith Allen Murray was arrested Thursday morning on University City Boulevard. Murray had been wanted by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police after he removed his electronic monitoring bracelet on Sunday. He was found by police while they were searching for Eric Dwayne Jones, another fugitive that had removed his electronic monitoring device.


Until Sunday, Murray had been wearing the monitor since he was released from jail on April 12 when he posted bond. He had been arrested on charges larceny and breaking and entering. Since his April 12 release, Murray was arrested twice more, once for assault charges. He is currently being jailed in Mecklenburg County.

23rd Electronic Monitor Removed by Suspect in 2012, CMPD on Lookout

CMPD is currently looking for Eric Dwayne Jones, 28. According to police, Jones removed his electronic ankle monitor by cutting it off Wednesday evening.

Jones was last seen near the intersection of Freedom Drive and Toddville Road. He was released on a $50,000 bond on May 1st and had been wearing the monitor since that time.

His incarceration stemmed from a host of armed robbery-related charges, including three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. CMPD records show 22 Mecklenburg County arrests in his past, including nine arrests within the past three years.

Jones, who will also face charges of interfering with an electronic monitoring device, is the 23rd person to remove their monitor in 2012.

The number of suspects who have removed their monitoring devices this year is over 25% higher than this time in 2011.

Suspect Slices Electronic Monitor, CMPD on Lookout

Charlotte's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team is on the lookout for Keith Allen Murray, 51. Police say Murray cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet Sunday after being released from jail on bond. He had been charged with larceny and breaking and entering, but now faces charges of interfering with an electronic monitoring device.

This is the 22nd case of someone that was monitored by CMPD cutting off their electronic monitor in 2012. That number is 23% higher that last year, which had 17 cases by this time 2011.

Keith Murray was last seen near the intersection of North Tryon Street and Tom Hunter Road. That's where authorities say he sliced through his monitor. He is 5'11" and 190 pounds. He has white hair and beard.

On June 12, 2012 Vann cut off his electronic monitoring device at his residence near West Boulevard. Vann had been on CMPD Electronic Monitoring since he posted a $35,000 bond on June 20, 2011.

On June 2, 2012 Keziah cut off his electronic monitoring device near his residence on Beatties Ford Road.  Keziah had been on CMPD Electronic Monitoring since he posted a $30,000 bond on May 3, 2012.

Man Wanted for Cutting Electronic Monitor

Wade Bolton

Wade Bolton is wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) on outstanding warrants for possession of a firearm by a felon, and interfering with an electronic monitoring device. Bolton has been on CMPD Electronic Monitoring since he posted a $25,000 bond on February 14, 2012.

Wade Robert Bolton is a habitual felon with an extensive criminal history including several arrests larceny from auto, auto theft, breaking and entering, firearms violations and assaults charges.

Bolton was scheduled to appear in superior court today, however he failed to appear and later cut his monitor off in the area of Marlowe Avenue.  Bolton is the fourteenth offender to cut off his court ordered monitor in 2012.

Louie Forney is wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) on outstanding warrants for robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and interfering with an electronic monitoring device.

Forney had been on CMPD Electronic Monitoring since he posted a $40,000 bond on February 9, 2011.  Forney has an extensive criminal history including several arrests larceny from auto, firearms violations and assault charges.

Forney is the 13th offender to cut off his court ordered monitor in 2012 which is an increase of two cut monitors during the same time period in 2011. CMPD currently has 360 offenders on court ordered electronic monitoring.

VCAT Apprehends Suspect in Providence Division Shooting

Detectives with the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, along with assistance from the Gang and Firearms Unit, arrested Ryan Demontra Hopkins for his involvement in a shooting that occurred at the 3500 block of Burkland Drive on Saturday, May 5, 2012.

On May 5, 2012, Providence Division patrol officers had responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call with one subject shot on Burkland Drive. Upon arrival officers located the victim, Torey Williams, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene before officers’ arrival.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and after conducting their initial investigations, they determined that the victim and suspect were known to one another and were having an argument when the suspect shot the victim.

After Homicide Detectives identified Mr. Hopkins as the shooter, VCAT and the Gang and Firearms Unit located and arrested Mr. Hopkins without incident. He was transported to police headquarters to be interviewed and has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill and Inflict Serious Injury with a gun (ADWIKISI-gun) and Possession of a Firearm by Felon. Mr. Hopkins is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

CMPD Seeking Two Robbery Suspects

Christopher Hamilton

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's VCAT (Violent Criminal Apprehension Team) is asking for the public's help in locating two fugitives who are wanted for armed robbery.

Christopher Charles Hamilton, 39, is wanted on outstanding warrants for robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.  Christopher Hamilton has been a fugitive since March 9, 2012, when he assaulted and robbed a victim of property.  The N.C. Department of Corrections stated Hamilton has absconded from his probation/parole supervision. He is 5'8" and 155 pounds.

Mitchell Perry

Mitchell Leon Perry, 25, is wanted for a separate robbery that occurred on March 16, 2012 in which he robbed a victim at gunpoint while the victim was attempting to use an ATM machine on West Sugar Creek Road. Perry is is 5'11" and 150 pounds.

Wanted by CMPD: Tomonta Simmons

Tomonta Simmons

Tomonta Simmons is wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) for outstanding warrants for interfering with an electronic monitoring device.  Simmons was released from jail on December 18, 2010 and placed on probation with the NC Department of Community Corrections and he was being monitored by CMPD.

On November 9, 2011 Simmons cut off his court ordered monitor and is currently on the run. Simmons was last seen in the area of I-277 and I-77.

Tomonta Simmons has previously been arrested for felony drug and weapon charges in Mecklenburg County.

CMPD and the NC Department of Community Corrections are involved in a pilot program to monitor priority offenders on probation. Simmons is the second offender to cut off a CMPD electronic monitor as part of this pilot program which is in its second year.

WANTED by CMPD: Desmond Hines

Desmond Hines is wanted by the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) on outstanding warrants for interfering with an electronic monitoring device, and felony assault on an officer causing serious injury.

Hines has been on CMPD Electronic Monitoring since February 3, 2011 while out on bond for pending felony assault charges. On August 5, 2011 Hines cut off his electronic monitor and threw it in a storm drain. The monitor was recovered; however Hines has not been located.

According to CMPD, they have monitored over 750 offenders in 2011. Hines was the 15th offender to cut off his court ordered monitor this year. Less than 2% of the offenders monitored by CMPD have cut their monitors off.

VCAT Looking for Man who Used Dogs to Assault CMPD Officers

UPDATE:   Jose Daniel Perez was arrested on July 10, 2011.  He has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon.

On July 6, 2011, at 10:45 am,  CMPD Metro Division officers responded to the 3400 block of Statesville Avenue in reference to a male subject who had been assaulted.  Upon their arrival, the victim advised that his step-father, Jose Daniel Perez, became upset and asked to speak to the victim.

Once outside, the Perez’s dog attacked the victim. The victim was transported with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect left the scene before being located by officers a short time later.  While officers began to speak with the Perez, his dog lunged at officers. While attempting to detain Mr. Jose Perez, he unleashed his dog on officers. Officers retreated to safety.

Update II:  Magistrate Sylvia Cherry returned to work this past weekend.  Apparently, her 'intentional' error is acceptable behavior down at the Mecklenburg County Magistrates Office.  This fact should make ALL Charlotteans feel sick to their stomach!!

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) is currently searching for 23-year old Martin Russell Diamond.

CMPD arrested Martin 'Rashad' Diamond on May 18, 2011. He was charged with kidnapping and the brutal rape of a known acquaintance. Diamond was transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail and was being held on $105,500 secure bond.

On May, 19, 2011, a criminal court magistrate mistakenly changed the conditions of the bond to an unsecured status. The suspect subsequently signed himself out of jail that day.

On May 24, 2011, CMPD received information that the suspect had been released. CMPD detectives immediately obtained another warrant for the suspect. CMPD’s VCAT was immediately notified and prioritized the search with a full complement of VCAT staff. They continue to work at apprehending the suspect.

Martin Diamond is 6 feet tall, weighs approximately 155 pounds and has a tattoo of a cross on his shoulder.  Martin Diamond should be considered extremely dangerous. Anyone with information on his location is asked to call 911 or 704-336-VCAT (8228) or e-mail or contact Char-Meck Crime Stoppers.

WANTED by VCAT: Anthony Mario Pettiford

Wanted: Anthony Pettiford

The CMPD VCAT (Violent Criminal Apprehension Taskforce) is once again searching for 23-year old Anthony Pettiford.  I'd love to know why this man was even eligible for 'electronic monitoring' considering the violent nature of his crimes and his prior attempt to flee the state last year!

In the past two years, Pettiford has been linked to several robberies, including two pawn shop robberies he committed with his brother in 2010.  After the robberies, the two brothers fled to Buffalo, NY, where they were eventually captured on June 23, 2010.  Pettiford was transported back to Charlotte, arriving on July 15, 2010.

He was released from jail on September 23, 2010 and the jail record states he was released on 'electronic monitoring.'  It would be interesting to know what happened to the robbery charges from last year because I do not see any future court dates for those charges nor does he have any NC Dept of Corrections record- which means he has no convictions.  I'm assuming our DA's dismissed charges after all the work the CMPD, VCAT, Buffalo Police, Media, etc. spent to try and locate him.

Pettiford was arrested again on April 26, 2011 on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy and possession of marijuana.  His original bond was set at $60,500 (secured) but the lucky duck was released two days later on 'electronic monitoring.'   One month later and Pettiford cut off his electronic monitoring device this morning on Avalon Avenue.  He is wanted on outstanding warrants for armed robbery and interfering with an electronic monitoring device.

On May 24, 2011, CMPD Homicide Unit Detectives obtained a murder warrant for James Farris Hodges in connection with the August 7, 2010 murder of Brooks Crist, which occurred at Lake Point Apartments.

At this time, CMPD Homicide Detectives believe that James Hodges has fled the state. CMPD is coordinating with VCAT, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the US Marshals, who are actively tracking Hodges.

VCAT Seeking Child Rapist on the Run

The CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) is looking for Jujuan Miller aka Royal Scott.  Miller is charged with raping a 9-year old girl and he is on the run for a probation violation.

Jujuan Miller is known to detail cars while working out of a van in the Eastway area.  He is 35-years old, approx. 5'9", 150-160 pounds. He has shot hair, a mustache and a goatee.

WANTED: Tyrone Patterson - Removed Electronic Monitoring Device

Tyrone V. Patterson is wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) on outstanding warrants for interfering with an electronic monitoring device, breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and Felony Possession of Stolen Goods.

Patterson was on CMPD Electronic Monitoring while out on bond for pending burglary charges but on March 10th at 6:10 pm, the suspect cut off his court ordered monitor in the 4300 Block of Rolling Hill Drive off Sugar Creek Road and is currently on the run. Patterson was in custody pending trial for a residential burglary in the Providence Division in January 2011.

Patterson has an extensive criminal history including 13 arrests in Mecklenburg County. Patterson last known location was at 3029 Clemson Avenue. Patterson frequents the North Tryon division around the intersection of North Tryon and Sugar Creek Road.

CMPD Arrests Kidnapping & Shooting Suspect

On January 25, 2011, members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Ladrawde Davis. CMPD Patrol officers with the Metro Division and Freedom Division assisted VCAT with the operation. Mr. Davis was wanted for the November 19, 2010, kidnapping and shooting of Ms. Keyon Heath.

Ms. Heath was kidnapped by Mr. Davis from Unique Lady Hair Designs, located at 2729 North Tryon Street. Mr. Davis approached Ms. Heath as she was sitting in her car in the parking lot and forced his way into the car at gunpoint. When Ms. Heath attempted to jump out of the car, Mr. Davis grabbed her by the hair and pulled her back inside the vehicle.

Mr. Davis then drove to Concord, NC, and pulled into a convenience store, at which point Ms. Heath jumped out of the vehicle in an attempt to escape. Mr. Davis followed her as she ran into the store and shot her multiple times. Ms. Heath sustained serious injuries as a result of the shooting.

The Concord Police Department signed warrants on Mr. Davis charging him with Attempted Murder and Kidnapping. In addition, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department signed a warrant on Mr. Davis charging him with Kidnapping. Davis has a long history of assaults on a female, damage to property and communicating threats.
