CMPD Investigating Homicide on Burner Drive

UPDATE: Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and Vice and Narcotics Division located Christopher Lee Hicks.
Hicks voluntarily accompanied officers to Police Headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide Detectives. Mr. Hicks has been charged with the Murder of Conley Taft Sparks, of 3507 Burner Drive.

Mr. Hicks and Mr. Sparks knew each other from the neighborhood and this offense was robbery related. Next of kin notification has been made.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives are investigating the murder of a male at 3507 Burner Drive. The victim was discovered on Thursday, August 7, 2008 shortly before 11:30 a.m. The victim’s next of kin has not been notified; once notification has been made, his name will be released.

Eastway Division officers responded to an Attempt to Locate call placed by the victim’s employer after he failed to show up for work this morning. Upon arrival, officers made several attempts to make contact with the resident but received no answer at the door. The decision was made to enter the home by an Eastway Division Sergeant and per policy the Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene to force entry. Once inside, officers discovered the victim deceased, with severe trauma.

The victim was pronounced deceased on scene and all personnel with the CFD left the residence. The scene was secured for the arrival of Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Search.
