CMPD is investigating a shooting at the Thomasboro apartment complex on Thomasboro Avenue that resulted in injuries to five people, including a two-year-old boy who was shot in the foot. The shooting occurred just after 10:30 pm last night.
According to police, the victims were sitting on a patio outside an apartment when a suspect, armed with a shotgun, came around the far corner of the building, yelled at the group and began shooting. One of the victims returned fire. It is unclear whether he hit the suspect. None of the victims reported knowing the suspect whom they described as a light-skinned black male with dreadlocks wearing dark clothing.
The victims were transported to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. One victim sustained serious injuries although at last report, he was alert and talking at the hospital. The other four victims have what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries. Because these victims are also witnesses in this case, their names are being withheld.
The Charlotte Fire Department arrived in time to see the suspect running through the complex. CMPD’s helicopter and K-9 Unit were called in and K-9 tracked the suspect to the road where the scent ended. Homicide Unit detectives are investigating.
