$5,000 reward offered for fugitive's arrest

UPDATE: Taj Pittman was caught in Atlanta, GA.

The FBI is asking for the public's help in capturing a man wanted in connection with several armed bank robberies in the Charlotte area.

A $5,000 reward from the North Carolina Bankers Association is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of Taj Maurice Pittman (R). Pittman is wanted on federal and state bank robbery charges. He's accused of robbing a Wachovia in Kannapolis and a SunTrust bank in Charlotte.

Pittman was arrested in November 2008, but was released from jail on bond in early December before additional warrants were served against him.

When the FBI showed up at his girlfriend's apartment in Charlotte to serve the warrants, Pittman allegedly tried to run over an FBI agent. Pittman then managed to elude police during an eight-hour manhunt and has been on the run since.

Pittman, called the "Scorpion" by FBI agents, has a distinctive tattoo of a scorpion on the left side of his neck. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Pittman's whereabouts should call the Charlotte Division of the FBI or CrimeStoppers at 704-334-1600.
