Charlotte Offender Featured on America's Most Wanted

UPDATE: 6-18-2009: Reginald Peters was taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service in Georgia. Peters has been a fugitive on the run ever since cutting off his court ordered electronic monitor in December of 2008. Peters is a registered sex offender charged with second degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Peters cut his monitor off shortly after his probation officer discovered pornographic materials in his house. Peters has been featured on America 's Most Wanted and CMPD's Most Wanted. Since fleeing in December 2008, CMPD has received numerous AMW and local tips about Peters whereabouts.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team never stopped working this case even after it was confirmed that Peters had fled the state. VCAT worked with the Hornet's Nest Task Force in Charlotte after developing a new possible address for the suspect in Roswell, GA. The USMS in Georgia recently began working the case.

AMW: N.C. Sex Offender Vanishes; Cops Need Your Help: Police in Charlotte, N.C. are hot on the trail of a sex offender who they say has cut off his monitor and disappeared. Reginald Peters was convicted on May 9, 2007 of second-degree sexual exploitation of a child for child pornography.

Peters was arrested on Sept. 29, 2008 for failure to register as a sex offender. While out on bond, Peters was ordered to wear a monitoring device.

Police routinely searched Peters' home on Jan. 2, 2009 and they found a cache of child pornography and Peters fled. Peters cut off the monitoring device and hasn't been seen since.

Peters has a black tattoo on the back of his neck that reads "Janie" and a crescent moon and star on his right arm. He was last seen driving a black four-door Honda with cheaply tinted windows. Peters has family in Charlotte, N.C., but police believe he has left the area.
