Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Robbery Unit detectives charged John Stanley Brown and Tracey Antoinette Hunter with the robbery of a Family Dollar, which occurred on January 15, 2009. This is Brown’s 7th arrest in Mecklenburg County dating back to 2004.
Mr. Brown was charged with Common Law Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Ms. Hunter was charged with Common Law Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. The vehicle that Mr. Brown was charged with possessing was stolen from the Rite Aid parking lot at 4220 North Tryon Street, on January 14, 2009, shortly before 8 p.m.
On January 15, 2009, at approximately 10:23 a.m., John Stanley Brown entered Family Dollar located at 1332 Central Avenue, stated to the cashier that he was armed with a gun and then reached in and took the money from the register. The store manager observed Mr. Brown get into a tan Oldsmobile displaying NC tag RPB-9942.
The store manager also observed a female later identified as Tracey Hunter waiting in the vehicle. Captain Faulkner-Welch of the Eastway Division observed the suspect vehicle as the robbery BOLO was being given out over the radio in the immediate area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. Mr. Brown drove recklessly at a high rate of speed and caused a few traffic crashes while attempting to flee from police. The pursuit ended with a vehicle crash (no injuries reported) at Independence Blvd and Idlewild Road. Eastway Division officers will determine the appropriate traffic charges at a later date.
At the time of his arrest, Mr. Brown had an outstanding warrant for Robbery from the Rite Aid in the Hickory Grove Division. We were actively looking for Brown when he robbed the Family Dollar on January 15th.
