CMPD Investigates Homicide on E Independence Blvd

Case Update: Based on the totality of the circumstances surrounding this investigation, CMPD Homicide detectives have determined that Mr. Forman committed suicide. Since the reported incident on Friday, January 16, 2009, detectives continued to interview family, friends, and co-workers of Mr. Forman and it has been determined he was not robbed.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide detectives are currently investigating a homicide that occurred at 9:35 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at 4801 E Independence Blvd. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Independence Tower.

Independence Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to one male victim being shot. When officers arrived on scene they located the victim, Michael Wayne Forman, lying on the ground outside of his vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. Mr. Forman was pronounced deceased on scene a short time later. Independence Division officers secured the scene and notified the Homicide Unit.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Search units responded and processed the crime scene for physical evidence. Detectives continue to work on identifying the individual(s) involved in this incident and are canvassing the area for anyone who may have information regarding the death of Mr. Forman. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe the motive for the shooting was robbery.
