On the morning of March 23, 2009, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, in coordination with the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force apprehended Omar Javier Torres, who was wanted for Murder by authorities in Houston, Texas.A federal warrant for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution was also obtained by the FBI’s Houston Violent Crimes Task Force. The fugitive investigation targeting Mr. Torres included critical assistance from the North Tryon Division’s Focused Mission Team and Robbery Offender Team.
Mr. Torres has been wanted since the commission of the murder in May of 2008. The FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force and VCAT began tracking Mr. Torres in March of 2009; he was apprehended without incident while working construction at 318 E. 5th Street in Charlotte.
