CMPD - Crime Statistics Summary for March 2009
(Released April 7, 2009)
Through the end of March, the preliminary total for Index Offenses was -25.8% lower than the same time last year. Property crime was down -25.0% while violent crime was down -31.3%. 9 homicides were reported compared to 20 in the same period in 2008 which results in a -55% decrease.
All of the other Index crime categories experienced decreases over the same period last year:
- Total robberies decreased -29.3%.
- The number of rape offenses decreased -4.3%.
- Aggravated assaults declined -34.2%.
-Burglary overall was down -27.3%, with decreases of -27.0% in residential and a decrease of -28.3% in commercial cases.
- Reports of vehicle thefts decreased by -31.0%.
- Total larceny cases declined by -23.1% with the larcenies from auto down by -30.9%.
- Total arson cases decreased by -24.4%.
