Detectives Investigate a Homicide in the North Tryon Division

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide and ADW Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation at the intersection of Lanecrest Dr and Colby Pl , in the North Tryon Division. The victim has been identified; his name is Ja’ron K. McGill, 19.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m., on August 2, 2009, North Tryon Division officers responded to a 911 call for service in reference to shots fired and one person shot. When officers arrived on scene, they located Mr. McGill on the side of the road suffering from a gunshot wound. Mr. McGill was treated on scene by the Charlotte Fire Department and Medic and was then transported to Carolinas Medical Center . At approximately 3:00 a.m. on August 3, 2009 he was pronounced deceased by CMC medical staff.

Based on witness statements gathered during the preliminary investigation, a gold or beige colored older model Toyota Corolla occupied by three subjects was seen parked at the intersection of Colby Pl and Milton Rd. Witnesses then advised hearing several shots and seeing Mr. McGill running on Colby Pl. The suspect vehicle was last seen driving outbound on Milton Rd. towards Sharon Amity Dr .

Detectives with the Homicide Unit, ADW Unit, and North Tryon Division officers conducted a neighborhood canvass. Crime Scene Search was on scene as well, photographed the scene and collected physical evidence.
