Arrest Made in Stabbing off Condon Street

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department ADW Unit and Homicide Unit Detectives are conducting an investigation into a stabbing that left one person seriously injured. The victim has been identified as Robert Lee Scott. The incident took place in the area of 1329 Condon Street in the Metro Division. The call for service came in at 9:13 p.m., on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.

Metro Division officers responded to a call for service regarding an Assault with a Deadly Weapon call in which the victim, Mr. Scott, was stabbed and having trouble breathing. When officers arrived on scene, they found Mr. Scott lying on the ground suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The Charlotte Fire Department began CPR and Medic transported Mr. Scott to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment for a life threatening injury.

Based on initial witness statements, Mr. Scott had given the suspect, Eugene Stradford, a ride in his van. Once the van was parked along Condon Street, Mr. Stradford told Mr. Scott that he was going to take the van. When Mr. Scott resisted, he was stabbed in the chest by Mr. Stradford, who fled the area in Mr. Scott’s vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Ram van. A BOLO was put out for the stolen vehicle throughout the county.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 14, 2010, Detectives signed ADWIKISI, Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery warrants on Mr. Stradford. He was taken into custody without incident at 3:02 a.m., thanks in no small part to the outstanding work by Metro Division patrol officers who located the stolen vehicle and set a perimeter around the house inside which Mr. Stradford was hiding out. VCAT responded to the scene and took Mr. Stradford into custody a short time later.

Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to photograph it and collect physical evidence. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to an ADW Unit Detective. Detective Wassenaar is the lead detective assigned to the case. In addition, you may also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
