Police Seeking Men Who Cut off Electronic Monitors

UPDATE:  Donqus McSwain turned himself into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.  He is currently in custody.

UPDATE II:  Robert Jones was arrested by the Bloomington Illinois Police Department with the assistance of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office who received information concerning his whereabouts. He is currently awaiting extradition

Robert Jones and Donqus D. McSwain wanted by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) on outstanding warrants for interfering with an electronic monitoring device, felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering.

On February 6, 2011 Robert Jones was released from jail on $10,000 secure bond for breaking and entering. Jones was ordered to wear a CMPD electronic monitor as an additional condition of his release.  On April 18, 2011 Jones was due to appear in superior court for the felony breaking and entering charges.

At approximately 10:37, Jones cut his court ordered monitor off at the 800 Block of Eastway Drive. Jones was last seen in a white minivan with tinted windows in the 1200 block of Central Avenue where his monitor was discarded.

Jones is a habitual felon with an extensive criminal history including arrests for robberies, drugs, burglary, assaults, and auto theft.  Jones is the 8th offender to cut off CMPD electronic monitor in 2011. CMPD has monitored over 500 offenders in 2011 and less than 1.5% cut the monitors off. Most of the offenders who cut their monitors off are re-arrested within days thanks to publicity from the media and tips from the public.
