CMPD's May 2012 Crime Statistics Summary

CMPD:  Through the end of May 2012, the preliminary total for Index Offenses was 4.3% higher than this time last year.  Property crime increased by 2.7% while violent crime increased by 15.9%.
  • 22 homicides were reported through May, compared to 14, resulting in an increase of 57.1%.  
  • 708 robberies were reported compared to 568, resulting in an increase of 24.6%. 
  • 97 rapes were reported compared to 80, resulting in an increase of 21.3%
  • 1,224 aggravated assaults were reported compared to 1,107, resulting in an increase of 10.6%.  
  • Burglary overall was down -14.5%, (2,833 compared to 3,315) with a decrease of -4.7% in residential (2,316 compared to 2,431) and a decrease of -41.5% in commercial cases (517 compared to 884).  
  • 825 vehicle thefts were reported compared to 786, resulting in an increase of 5.0%.  
  • Total larceny cases increased by 9.6% (9,016 compared to 8,225) with the larcenies from auto up by 0.2% (3,167 compared to 3,160).  
  • 73 arson cases were reported compared to 87, resulting in a decrease of -16.1%
