Detectives Investigating a Homicide in the Metro Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation into a shooting that occurred at the 400 block of Coxe Avenue which left one man dead. The deceased has been identified as Gregory Lamont Kilgo.  The call for service came in at 9:04pm on Saturday, June 9, 2012.  This is the 22nd murder in Charlotte in 2012.

Metro Division patrol officers responded to a 911 call for service on Coxe Avenue in reference to one male shot in the roadway.  Upon arrival, the victim was located and pronounced deceased.

According to witnesses the suspect is described as a black male with short dreadlocks wearing all black. The K-9 Unit responded and attempted to track the suspect. Patrol units, as well as the helicopter, circulated the area but officers have been unable to locate the suspect at this time.

Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine if anyone saw or heard anything in the moments leading up to the shooting that will aid in the investigation.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team as well as the Vice and Gang Unit responded to the scene.
