Arrests made in Saints & Sinners Sweepstakes and Stateline Sweepstakes Robberies

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Robbery Unit have made two arrests in the recent Saints & Sinners Sweepstakes and Stateline Sweepstakes robberies.

On July 24, 2012, at 12:35 p.m., two suspects entered the Saints and Sinners Sweepstakes located at 4724-A Old Pineville Rd in Charlotte, NC. Once inside the business, the first suspect, later identified as Vernon Tyree Glenn, produced a handgun, pointed it at an employee and demanded money from the business.  The second suspect, later identified as Wesley Banks, gathered up money along with Mr. Glenn and then fled the scene along with Mr. Glenn.

Officers were notified that the suspects from the armed robbery got into an orange colored Dodge Neon and fled the scene. Within a matter of minutes the vehicle was spotted by a Westover Division Officer a short distance from the robbery. The vehicle turned onto St. Vardell Lane and two occupants fled the vehicle on foot while leaving the vehicle in the parking lot of the Roadway Inn.   Officers were able to determine which hotel room the two suspects ran into and take them into custody. A handgun was recovered inside the vehicle.

Mr. Glenn and Mr. Banks were transported to police headquarters for questioning, where they both admitted their involvement in this robbery. Mr. Glenn also admitted his involvement in the robbery of the Stateline Sweepstakes located at 400 Westinghouse Blvd that occurred on July 11, 2012. The second suspect in the Stateline Sweepstakes robbery has not yet been identified, as such, the case remains under investigation.

Vernon Glenn was charged with two counts each of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Wesley Banks was charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
