Detectives Conducting a Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at 11339 Red Hickory Lane in the Steele Creek Division. The call for service came in at 7:28 p.m., on Tuesday, July 24, 2012.  The deceased has been positively identified as Alfred Michael Smith.  This is Charlotte's 31st homicide of 2012.

Steele Creek Division patrol officers responded to a call for service placed by a concerned neighbor in regards to the welfare of the male who resides at 11339 Red Hickory Lane. The male subject was found deceased when the neighbor entered the home to check on him. The neighbor then exited the house and called 911 to report the incident. There are obvious signs of foul play at the crime scene. Detectives with the Homicide Unit are canvassing the neighborhood to determine if anyone has any information that will aid the investigation.

The investigation is in its early stages, as additional information develops, it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.  Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Detectives with the Gang Unit responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team responded to the scene as well.
