District Attorney News Release: Man convicted this week for trafficking heroin at airport


CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sunny John Chukwu, 59, was tried for 1) trafficking in heroin by possession, 2) trafficking in heroin by transportation and 3) possession with intent to sell or deliver heroin.


On February 2, 2009, the defendant was apprehended at Charlotte Douglas International Airport by Customs and Border Patrol with 295 grams of heroin in his pants.


On September 11, 2012, in Courtroom 5150 of the Mecklenburg County Courthouse, a jury found Chukwu guilty of all three charges. The Honorable Linwood O. Foust, Superior Court Judge, sentenced Chukwu to 225-279 months in prison.
