Greenville Teen Pleads Guilty but Mentally Ill to Killing His Mother

Eighteen year-old Joshua McEachern, a Greenville native, was sentenced to nearly 30 years in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill to killing his mother. The incident happened on Mother's Day of 2011

According to investigators, McEachern shot his brother and mother after a disagreement, killing his mother. Daniel McEachern, the brother, remarkably lived after being shot in the chest several times.

Joshua's mother, Kathy McEachern, was killed after being shot in the face.

It was the testimony of a psychiatrist that allowed the court to accept the mentally ill plea. McEachern was sentenced to 27 years in prison and must serve 85% of that time before he is eligible for parole.
