Nevin Rd Fire Ruled Arson

Earlier tonight, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and the Charlotte Fire Department responded to a vacant house fire on the 5600 block of Nevin Road. Four subjects were inside the vacant house- set the fire and then fled into the woods behind the house. Police searched the neighborhood and called in the K-9 unit to track the subjects but they were unsuccessful. The Charlotte Fire Department has ruled the fire as arson. Fallen Hero Kent Long

The Charlotte Fire Department lost one of its own on Friday.
Firefighter Kent Long, 44, collapsed at Station #23 Friday evening, just before 6 pm. He had 17 years of dedicated service.

Fellow firefighters and medics began resuscitation efforts immediately, but Long died at the Carolinas Medical Center.
An autopsy is planned, but it is uncertain when results will be released. Long leaves behind a wife, Gina, and three young children.
