Worker Shot & Killed at Internet Cafe: Suspect Captured

Case Update: Homicide Unit Detectives have arrested Larry Perry and charged him with the Armed Robbery and Murder of Mr. Jamal Salih.

Eastway Division Patrol Officers located Mr. Perry and arrested him for the probation violation warrant. Mr. Perry was transported to police headquarters and was subsequently charged with the Armed Robbery and Murder of Mr. Salih. Mr. Perry has been arrested 8 times previously in Mecklenburg County.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide and Robbery Units are conducting an investigation into a shooting that occurred at 2704 Tuckaseegee Road (Business Center, an Internet Sweepstakes Center) The incident took place shortly after 1 pm on Saturday, August 21, 2010. The victim has been identified as Jamal Salih.

Metro Division officers responded to an ADW call for service at the Business Center, which is an internet sweepstakes cafe. The suspect entered the business and demanded money from the cashier while patrons were inside. The victim and suspect got into an altercation and the suspect shot the victim and fled the scene on foot. Medic transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center-Main for life threatening injuries, where he was pronounced deceased.

The suspect has been described as a black male, approximately 6 ft tall, with a black cloth covering his face. He was last seen on foot.

The investigation is in its initial stages; however it appears to be a business robbery from the store. The store clerk was shot while inside the business. Homicide and Robbery Detectives are on scene actively gathering information as to the events that led up to the shooting. Several witnesses have been transported to the Law Enforcement Center. Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to collect physical evidence.
