Man Impersonating Firefighter

According to this WSOC-TV report:

On Monday night, a man impersonating a firefighter tried to talk his way into a home on Old Course Drive. (That's in the Piper Glen Estates off Rea Road.)

The homeowner told police the imposter wore a yellow firefighter's jacket and said he wanted to get in to check a gas leak.

She stood at the front door and asked for identification. He had none, and she refused to let him in and then she called 911 as the fake firefighter left.

Officials with the Charlotte Fire Department said you'll know if they are there because they never show up alone and all of their vehicles are marked.

"When the Charlotte Fire Department comes to an incident, whether its an emergency or not, we're gonna have identifications in our wallet. And we travel in groups of at least four firefighters." said Rob Brisley, Fire Captain with the CFD.

Police located the man Tuesday night by tracking the license plate number on his black sport utility vehicle. Two specific guidelines must be met for him to be criminally charged. First, his impersonation must result in an injury to someone and second, it must prevent firefighters or medics from doing their job.
