An armed robbery occurred in the laundry room at the Somerset Apartments around 7 pm Saturday night. Police say the robbery in north Charlotte sent one man to the hospital while another is in jail. Police are still trying to piece together details of the robbery that occurred on Ventura Way.
WCNC interviewed resident Robin Alexander who said she heard the robber fire his gun, and saw the injured victim in the laundry room. "I hear gun shots, like eight shots, boom boom boom," said Alexander. After hearing the shots, she looked outside and saw an injured man sitting near the laundry room. "He was shot. It looked like a bullet had scathed him [on the arm] and somebody had hit him in the head," said Alexander.
Police said the robber shot the victim once in the finger, once in the arm, and hit the victim in the head with his gun. There was also another neighbor who saw the robbery taking place, and got a gun from his home to try and scare the robber away.
When the alleged robber fled the scene shortly after the victim was shot, a maintenance man chased him into a neighboring apartment complex, and lead police right to where he was hiding. The suspect was arrested just minutes after the crime. An hour later, the maintenance man also lead police to what he believes is the gun used by the suspect in the armed robbery, though police will have to test the weapon to make sure.
Police have not released the names of the suspect or the victim at this time. The victim is still in the hospital tonight, but his injuries are not life-threatening. Source: WCNC
