CMPD Robbery Detectives are investigating an attempted robbery of the MJ Banh Mi Café. Eastway Division officers responded to the robbery call at 5:25 p.m., on August 4, 2008. The café owners and the suspect, Dung Quoc Luong, were the only people inside the store at the time of the attempted robbery. When the officers arrived, they found the Luong lying on the floor after having been subdued by the café owner.
Initial indications are that the suspect demanded money from the café owner by brandishing a large hunting knife. The victim was able to subdue the suspect and hold him until CMPD patrol officers arrived on scene. The first Eastway Division officer arrived on scene less than three minutes after the call was received.
CMPD Robbery Detectives responded to the scene and are currently interviewing the store owners. The suspect was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries he received while being subdued by the victim.
