On January 22, 2010, CMPD Providence Division officers responded to a call for service at the Levine Children’s Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center in regards to a 6-month old infant with injuries suspected to be “non accidental” in nature. Hospital staff informed the officers that the child, London Brantley was unresponsive and being treated for injuries.Detectives continued to investigate the circumstances around the infant’s injuries and interviewed the mother and her boyfriend while hospital staff performed further testing to gain more information.
With the developments from the interview and the hospital, Homicide detectives arrested Juan Sabastian Vega, for Felony Child Abuse and Murder. Vega is not the child’s father, but the boyfriend of the infant’s mother. The infant passed away on January 23, 2010.
