As a result of a year-long investigation, Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Vice and Narcotics Unit with assistance from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration seized 3.6 kilograms (8 pounds) of black tar heroin on Thursday, July 28, 2011. This seizure amounts to approximately 36,000 dosage units of heroin. The street value of these drugs is approximately $500,000. 
The black tar heroin was seized from an apartment near Central Avenue. This investigation has been ongoing since 2010 and multiple agencies from around the region provided information to CMPD that eventually led to the location of this significant seizure.
