Man Wanted for Oak Arbor Lane Shooting

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Timothy Antoine Mackey, also known as “Puff.”

Mackey is wanted on two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intending to Kill- Inflicting Serious Injury, Kidnapping and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. The charges are in connection with the January 19th shooting on Oak Arbor Lane.

Mackey is believed to be somewhere in the Rock Hill area. He is armed and should be considered extremely dangerous. If you see him, call 911 or if you have information that could lead officers to his whereabouts, please call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

It is hard to forget the story of 9-year old Jessica Lunsford, a sweet young girl who was kidnapped, raped and buried alive by a repeat and registered sex offender in Florida. Jessica was born and lived in Gastonia until 2004. She was killed in 2005.

Since Jessica's awful murder, 39 states have enacted some sort of 'Jessica's Law' legislation- which calls for tougher laws and punishments for men and women convicted of sexually abusing children under the age of 12. North Carolina is 1 of 10 states that does NOT have a form of Jessica's Law in place.

For the past two years, citizens and child advocate groups have urged NC representatives to pass North Carolina House Bill 933 (aka Jessica Lunsford Act). In 2007, HB-933 passed through the House of Representatives by a vote of 114 to 0, but the bill never made it to the Senate floor for a vote.
At this time, the bill is being held up by the Senate Judiciary I Committee (Civil). If the bill is approved by the Judiciary I Committee, it will be referred to the Appropriations/Base Budget Committee and if favorable, the bill will go to the Senate for a vote.

Leader of the 'Hidden Valley Kings' Captured

UPDATE: 3-6-2008- Abell is back in Charlotte in the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Roscoe Abell, a ranking member of the "Hidden Valley Kings" gang was arrested this morning in New York City.

Abell managed to elude arrest since last March, when he was indicted in Federal Court on numerous narcotic charges. Abell and 19 other 'Hidden Valley Gang' members were named in the indictment.

Finally... We have a Sheriff!

After weeks of drama and controversy surrounding Nick Mackey, the Mecklenburg County Commissioners finally named Daniel "Chipp" Bailey, 59, as the new Mecklenburg County Sheriff.

Since 1994, Bailey served as Mecklenburg County Chief Deputy Sheriff. He is a native Charlottean who has worked in law enforcement since 1972- primarily in administrative positions.

Bailey's job performance record is impeccable and he plans to continue the 287-g immigration program started by our former Sheriff, Jim Pendergraph.

Sheriff Bailey is now responsible for the day-to-day operation of the largest Sheriff’s Office in North and South Carolina. His responsibilities include overseeing:

• A jail system housing an average daily population of over 2,600 inmates.
• Providing security for over one million visitors to the Mecklenburg County courthouse each year.
• Ensuring timely service of over 100,000 civil and criminal papers each year.
• Receiving and booking over 40,000 arrestees a year.
• Registering and monitoring 650+ sex offenders.
• Issuing gun purchase permits and concealed weapon permits.
• Overseeing a thirty bed juvenile detention facility.

Matthews Police Seeking Larceny Suspects

The Matthews Police Department is asking for help in identifying the man and woman shown in the photo above. On January 31st, the suspects were involved in a larceny from Michael's Arts & Crafts, located on Northeast Parkway in Matthews.

Woman Killed by Husband in the University Area

Early this morning, CMPD Officers responded to the Mission Mallard Creek Apartments on Bennettsville Lane in response to a 911 call reporting a deceased woman at that location.

Police say 20-year old Simrit Gill was killed by her husband, 24-year old Amandeep Brar (R) during an altercation.

Shortly after police found Gill's body, officers located Brar inside a McDonalds at a Wal-Mart near the apartment complex. He is in the Mecklenburg County Jail being held without bond.

Man Wanted for Hotel Robbery

On January 15th, a black male (shown above) robbed the Country Inns and Suites, located at 2541 Little Rock Road. As you can see from the photo, the suspect demanded money from the desk clerk at gunpoint.
