Man Shot & Killed in Cookout Parking Lot

UPDATES: Antonio Gerrick Hamilton & Cherelle Monet Griffin turned themselves in to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and VCAT apprehended Shamon Monair Goins for the murder of Mr. Clement. They will all also be charged with the Shooting Into An Occupied Dwelling.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg ADW and Homicide Detectives are conducting an investigation in the North Tryon Division, which left one person deceased. The incident took place in the parking lot of the Cookout Restaurant, located at 1301 West Sugar Creek Road. The call for service came in at 4:19 a.m., on Sunday May 16, 2010. The victim has has been identified as Devon Alister Clement.

North Tryon Division officers responded to a call for service regarding one person shot outside the restaurant. When officers arrived on scene, they located the victim lying in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. Medic transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center-Main for treatment.

A short time later, the victim died as a result of those injuries. Based on initial witness statements, the victim was involved in an altercation with several other subjects in the parking lot, when several gunshots were heard, one striking the victim.

This investigation is in its initial stages. Detectives are busy following up on suspect leads at this time. Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to photograph it and collect physical evidence. Detectives with the ADW Unit are assisting the Homicide Unit with this investigation.
