Shooting Death on North Tryon Street

UPDATE I: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Detectives have signed murder warrants for the murder of Quinten Demonta Nelson. Mr. Nelson was shot as he walked along Tryon Street , late in the evening on Monday, September 15, 2008. Cedric Antonio Thomas and Jamie Lee Briggs have been charged with murder. The CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) has been actively searching for the two since the warrants were signed.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating the shooting death of a young man in the parking lot of 901 North Tryon Street. Central Division officers responded to a shots fired call at 11:26 p.m., on Monday, September 15, 2008.

Central Division officers responded to the intersection of Church Street and North Tryon Street and found the victim, Quintin Demota Nelson, 21, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Nelson was treated by Medic on scene and transported to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to witness statements, several black male suspects encountered Mr. Nelson along Tryon Street and jumped out of a red Dodge Durango and confronted him, shooting him multiple times. The Dodge Durango remained on scene; the suspects fled on foot towards Dalton Avenue. Central Division officers gave chase on foot but were unable to locate the suspects.

Detectives are working to identify the individuals involved in the shooting and are processing the scene and interview witnesses. Crime Scene Search responded to the scene and is collecting physical evidence from the Dodge Durango and the scene of the shooting.
