A newborn baby boy was found abandoned early Wednesday morning in the bathroom of a McDonald’s restaurant, located in the Rivergate shopping center, off South Tryon Street.Police say the shown suspect left the baby alone in the women’s restroom for a few minutes before someone called 911 and stated, “I'm at McDonald's at Rivergate. We found a newborn in the ladies room, and I think it's just freshly out,” she said. “It still has the umbilical cord, it's naked, and I was wondering if they could send an ambulance or somebody to pick the baby up because it's cold.”
There is no word on the identity of the child or his parents but witnesses reported seeing a man carrying the baby inside and then running away. The man who dropped the baby off is not thought to be related as he was African American and the abandoned baby is Caucasian. Other than initially being treated for hypothermia, the child is said to be in good health.
