Possible Road Rage Leads to Hit-and-Run, Leaves 21 Year-Old in Critical Condition

The daughter of an Indian Trail councilwoman is in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident on Wednesday that NC Troopers say may have been the result of road rage.

Twenty-one year-old Christina Morris was spun off the road after an SUV clipped her car at about 2:00 Wednesday afternoon. The wreck happened as Morris attempted to make a pass in the right lane of I-485 near Providence Road.

The SUV that wrecked Morris continued traveling down the I-485 Inner Loop and never stopped. Christina's mother is Indian Trail Councilwoman Darlene Morris Luther. Morris is listed in critical condition with collapsed lungs and broken bones.

The SUV that caused the accident is a silver or light gray color any may have damage to the front passenger side. If you have any information on this case, call the NC Highway Patrol at (704) 547-0042.

Hit-and-Run Accident Leaves Charlotte Pedestrian in Hospital

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian in the hospital. The accident took place at about 3:00 Sunday morning on Marlowe Avenue.

The victim's name has not been released, and police say they have no description of the vehicle involved.

UPDATE: Hit-and-Run Driver Identified in Myers Park Statue Case

Cody Pierce has been arrested for hitting the iconic Myers Park statue. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, Pierce was driving on a revoked license when he hit the statue, pushing its stone base about 4 feet.

Pierce is scheduled to appear in court today. He allegedly hit the statue of Charlottean Hugh McManaway Thursday night around 10:00.


The statue, which depicts Hugh McManaway, is located at the intersection of Providence Road and Queens Road. Police say the Pierce never stopped.

McManaway was a popular local man that came from a prominent family whose home was near the location of the statue on Queens Road. Residents of Myers park dedicated the statue in 1989 after McManaway's death.

Older residents have fond memories of McManaway directing traffic at the intersection wearing a hat and raincoad, as he is depicted in the statue.

UPDATE: Hit-and-Run Victim Identified

UPDATE: The victim in this incident has been identified as 23 year-old Jeffrey Hardin of Mint Hill. According to police, Hardin was traveling on foot heading eastbound on Lebanon Road. Reports say he was walking against the flow of traffic when he was hit by a speeding vehicle.


A hit-and-run accident left a Mint Hill pedestrian dead at around 2:45 Thursday morning at the 6300 block of Lebanon Road. Mint Hill police found Hardin lying in the road where he was later pronounced dead. The suspected vehicle in the accident, a stolen van, was found on fire on Albemarle Road shortly after.

The accident occurred near the entrance to Pine Lake Country Club between Matthews-Mint Hill Road and Margaret Wallace Road.

CMPD is investigating whether the burning van on Albemarle Road was could be the same one used in the killing on Lebanon Road.

The suspected vehicle was reported stolen from a Wal-Mart that same morning.

Mint Hill police have asked citizens to look out for a vehicle that has damage to the front end. They have asked anyone with information on this incident to call them at (704)545-1085

UPDATE: Suspect in hit-and-run death circles victim to get a better look, reports say

UPDATE: The vehicle in question has been identified as a red 2-door 1999-2001 Toyota Solara with a damage and partially missing front passenger headlight.

The victim has been identified as Alvin Price, a 54 year old father of 4.

Following a hit-and-run accident about 10:00 Saturday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for the driver of a red sports car.

According to an eye-witness report, the vict walked into the intersection of Eastway Drive and Howie Circle where he proceeded to sit cross-legged in the middle of  the road.

Reports say the victim was struck by a red 2-door sports car that had damage to the front passenger side.  The car then made two circles around the victim to see the extent of his injuries.

MCIU Detectives Investigating Hit and Run on Brown-Grier Road

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are conducting an investigation into a hit and run accident involving a vehicle driven by Jenna Woodring and a bicyclist (which resulted in serious injury) to the 50-year old bicyclist, George Scott Curtis.

On July 19, 2012, at approximately 5:50 a.m., Steele Creek Division patrol officers responded to 13900 Brown-Grier Road in reference to a hit and run with injuries.   Upon arrival, officers located a male victim lying in the roadway with serious injuries. Mr. George Curtis was transported to CMC Main with life threatening injuries.  Officers on scene put out a description of the suspect vehicle that was seen fleeing the scene. Shortly after the incident, citizens called 911 stating that there was a vehicle driving erratically on the outer loop of I-485 near Independence Boulevard.

One of the citizens followed the suspect vehicle to the Rocky River Road exit where State Highway Patrol was able to conduct a traffic stop. State Highway Patrol then contacted CMPD advising them they had the hit and run suspect and vehicle.  The suspect in this case was identified as Jenna Esperanza Woodring.  Ms. Woodring was transported to the CMPD headquarters to be interviewed by detectives. Her vehicle was also towed and is currently being processed by Crime Scene Investigation Unit. Ms. Woodring has been charged with DWI, Felony Hit and Run, and Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle.

This collision is under investigation by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major crash Investigation Unit.  Any witnesses to this collision are being asked to call Detective R. Gormican at 704-432-2169.

Woman Killed by Hit & Run Accident - Driver Arrested

UPDATE: The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit received information about the driver and vehicle involved in this collision on 11/19/2011. This information led to the arrest of Amber DeJesus. She was subsequently charged with Felony Hit and Run and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A woman was crossing the 5900 block of Monroe Road when she was struck by a vehicle that was headed inbound toward downtown Charlotte. This vehicle left the scene without leaving any information or rendering aid to the victim.  The victim has been identified as Valerie Miranda.

Medic arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation. The information gathered at the scene indicates the suspect vehicle could be a dark colored pick-up truck with dually rear wheels. This vehicle could have damage to the right front headlight assembly and right front corner.

Police Seeking Driver who Killed Bicyclist in Morning Accident

Shortly before 6:00 am, a hit and run fatal crash occurred on Poindexter Drive at Lawndale Road. Edward Hedrick III, 29, was bicycling with two other friends down Poindexter Drive.  Mr. Hedrick fell from his bicycle prior to Lawndale Road and when his friends tried to get him out of the road, a vehicle came down Poindexter Drive towards South Blvd.

Mr. Hedrick’s friends attempted to flag the car down to slow down, but the vehicle struck Mr. Hedrick while he was on the ground and drove away.  The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Medic. 

The CMPD Major Crash Investigations Unit is requesting assistance from the public in locating the suspect vehicle- An older model, silver or light blue colored vehicle, possibly Toyota Tercel or Corolla, 4 door. The vehicle was last seen driving down on Poindexter toward South Blvd.  The damage to the suspect vehicle will be possibly minor front end and undercarriage damage.

Detectives Conducting a Hit and Run Investigation in South Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department HITS Unit are conducting an investigation into a Hit and Run fatality crash along the 7700 block of Carmel Road, near Timber Hill Court. A 911 call was received at 3:11 a.m., on Wednesday, September 01, 2010, when the caller noticed that a man was lying in the roadway. The victim has has been identified as Jesse Carlton Hawkins, W/M, DOB: 10/24/1987.

South Division officers responded to a call for service in reference to a motorcycle accident along Carmel Road. When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim lying unconscious in the roadway. The victim’s moped was off the roadway in a grassy area near a tree line. Medic pronounced the victim deceased at 3:21 a.m. Based upon information gathered at the scene, detectives with the HITS unit have reason to believe that the victim was involved in a single vehicle crash, in which he lost control of his moped. A short time later, a vehicle ran the victim over and continued on its way without stopping to report the incident.

Detectives do have information that the victim was in the Carmel Road/Johnston Road area shortly after 2:00 a.m. The time line for this crash is approximately between 2:10 a.m. and 3:11 a.m., when it was reported to police. Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance with this case to help identify the suspect vehicle. At this time, we are asking that anyone in the area this morning who believes that they may have been involved in a crash to come forward and speak with detectives. South Division Officers have set up an information checkpoint for people leaving the neighborhood to notify them of the incident and to ask for the public’s assistance if they have any information about the incident. As additional information develops in this case, it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Mother on Drugs Collides with 8 Cars Bringing Kids to School

Police say Nekita Renee Brooks, 24, was high on prescription drugs on Friday morning when she was driving her children to Sedgefield Elementary school. They say she drove six miles and collided with eight different cars.

A concerned citizen followed her minivan until police were able to locate and stop her. By the time Brooks was stopped by police, she had lost a tire and was driving on metal... Brooks had three children in the vehicle at the time of her arrest. The youngest child was 3 years old.

Brooks is charged with child neglect, driving while impaired and driving with a revoked license. This is Brooks' 6th arrest since May 2006. Her prior offenses include; selling marijuana, disorderly conduct, resisting a police officer and probation violations.

Man Shot & Killed on South Boulevard

Shortly after 5:00 yesterday morning, CMPD responded to 5316 South Boulevard in reference to a hit and run pedestrian fatality.

Officers found 36-year old Rajiv Shukla dead on the scene. The police began their investigation which revealed the victim had been shot.

2 Teens Arrested for Hit & Run

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police arrested two teenagers in connection to a head-on collision involving a stolen vehicle. The accident happened on Tuckaseegee Road on Sunday morning around 1:30 a.m. Three people from the other car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Eddie Jacobs (L) and Janay McCrorey (R) both 18, were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and hit and run. Police said there are possibly two other suspects who ran from the scene. If you have any information, please contact CrimeStoppers at 704-334-1600. Source: WBTV

Stolen Vehicle Involved in Hit & Run

WCNC: Charlotte police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who was involved in an accident that cut a car in half. It is not often when a driver can walk away from an accident where his car was cleaved in half, but that's exactly what happened in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Lola Avenue and Grace Street near the Plaza.

The suspect was driving a stolen Audi when he hit the other car at 100 miles per hour, according to police. They're looking for the driver of the Audi and they said they have one clue. Officers believe the driver of the stolen car hit their head and broke the windshield. Police said the people in the car cut in half went to the hospital, but they are expected to be all right.

Man killed in Hit & Run

UPDATE: Erika Nicole Derby, 23, is accused of hitting Rodney Floyd, 52, early Thursday morning as he walked along the 9900 block of Newell-Hickory Grove Road. Derby called police Thursday night and said she hit Floyd with a 92 Buick LeSabre and fled the scene, according to investigators.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for a Buick LeSabre that they believe struck and killed a pedestrian in northeast Charlotte. The body of Rodney Eugene Floyd, 52, (R) was found by the side of the road around 6:15 a.m. today on Newell-Hickory Grove Road near Old Concord Road.

It's not clear when Floyd was hit, police said. But they believe the Charlotte man had been walking from Old Concord Road. Officers said there were skid marks left behind on the road from the vehicle who fled the scene.
