Unmarked Police Car Stolen

On Thursday night, an unmarked Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police car was stolen from the parking lot of the Courtney Commons Apartments. Police say a Detective assigned to the Violent Crimes Task Force parked and secured the vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex while he was conducting foot patrol as a part of an off-duty job.

When the Detective returned to where he parked the vehicle he discovered it missing and immediately reported it stolen. He also discovered a white 2001 Dodge Caravan parked in the adjacent space with the engine running and a “popped” ignition.

The unmarked police car is a gray 2004 Dodge Intrepid. Plate #: NC VXR-6572.

The Detective had secured several police issued items in the truck of the vehicle. The items include: raid vest with “POLICE” labeled on the front and back, 12 gauge Remington Shotgun, TASER, gas mask, handcuffs and 2 Glock ammunition magazines.

Police say the subsequent investigation has revealed the 2001 Dodge Caravan was stolen from an unknown location. The registered owner has been contacted but informed investigating officers that he sold the van to a 3rd party, who has not been located. Auto Theft detectives are diligently investigating both thefts and tracking down all leads in an effort to locate the police vehicle and its contents.

Anyone with information about the person(s) responsible for these thefts or who knows the whereabouts of the stolen police vehicle are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-336-1600.

Deadly Shooting in West Charlotte

Early this morning, police responded to Clay Avenue in reference to a man shot. Lumont Cole, 37, was transported to CMC by Medic but he died enroute to the hospital.

Police arrested and charged 16-year old Lonneil Mason (R) with Cole's murder. It shouldn't be any surprise Mason killed someone. He was arrested two months ago for discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, going armed to the terror of the people and breaking & entering. He was released from jail the same day.

I can only imagine what his juvenile record looks like...

Dilworth's Serial Arsonist Sentenced

Last June, Susan Elaine Davidson (R) was charged with multiple counts of arson after she set numerous fires in the Dilworth area of Charlotte. Using forensics, investigators were able to connect and charge Davidson for four of the fires, however, they believe she is responsible for several more.

Davidson terrorized the residents of the Dilworth community for six months. She set fires outside homes in the middle of the night- using items from her home, such as cooking grease and paper towels. Davidson's fires damaged several homes and left residents awake at night- praying they wouldn't be the next target of the serial arsonist.

Susan Davidson was charged with two counts of first degree arson, burning of uninhabited structures and setting fire to grass/brush land. Earlier this year, she struck a plea deal with prosecutors. Davidson escaped jail time and received 36 months (3 years) of supervised probation. In addition, she is banned from stepping foot in the Dilworth area.

Bank Robber Sentenced

In January 2006, Tyrone Cherry (Top) and Genaia Moore (Bottom) robbed a stand-alone ATM machine on the corner of WT Harris Blvd & The Plaza. The robbery occurred on January 6, 2006 at 2:23 in the afternoon.

According to the Federal Complaint, Cherry & Moore overpowered an employee working on the ATM machine and got away with $64,000 in cash and the employee's firearm.

The federal indictment states an employee of Express Teller Services was removing daily transaction receipts from a small room located on the side of the ATM. She was approached by the two suspects and Ms. Moore pushed the victim inside the room, causing her to hit her head.

As Ms. Moore continued to push the victim around and steal her firearm, Mr. Cherry stood watch, wearing an Express Teller employee uniform shirt. Ms. Moore ordered the employee to open the vault. Cherry and Moore fled with $64,000 in cash.

A witness saw the attack and called police. In addition, the witness documented the plate number for the minivan the suspects were driving. In short time, police located Cherry- since the van was registered in his name. Four months later, Moore was arrested by federal agents.

In September 2006, both suspects agreed to a plea deal with the Federal Government. Days later, Cherry withdrew his guilty plea and requested a new attorney represent him. As of today, Cherry is still awaiting trial.

Moore continued with her guilty plea. On June 15, 2007, a Judge sentenced Moore to serve eight years in prison for her part in the bank robbery. After she is released from prison, she will be on supervised release for three years. In addition, she is required to pay restitution to Bank of America (the owner of the ATM) and the victim in this case.
