WANTED by VCAT: MARTIN DIAMOND

Martin Diamond
UPDATE III:  6/3/11- Martin Diamond has been captured!!!  CMPD University City Division Officers located Diamond after following a Crime Stoppers tip.

Update II:  Magistrate Sylvia Cherry returned to work this past weekend.  Apparently, her 'intentional' error is acceptable behavior down at the Mecklenburg County Magistrates Office.  This fact should make ALL Charlotteans feel sick to their stomach!!

Update:  Martin 'aka Rashad' Diamond is out on the streets updating his Facebook account and continuing to contact the victim...

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) is currently searching for 23-year old Martin Russell Diamond.

CMPD arrested Martin 'Rashad' Diamond on May 18, 2011. He was charged with kidnapping and the brutal rape of a known acquaintance. Diamond was transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail and was being held on $105,500 secure bond.

On May, 19, 2011, a criminal court magistrate mistakenly changed the conditions of the bond to an unsecured status. The suspect subsequently signed himself out of jail that day.

On May 24, 2011, CMPD received information that the suspect had been released. CMPD detectives immediately obtained another warrant for the suspect. CMPD’s VCAT was immediately notified and prioritized the search with a full complement of VCAT staff. They continue to work at apprehending the suspect.

Martin Diamond is 6 feet tall, weighs approximately 155 pounds and has a tattoo of a cross on his shoulder.  Martin Diamond should be considered extremely dangerous. Anyone with information on his location is asked to call 911 or 704-336-VCAT (8228) or e-mail or contact Char-Meck Crime Stoppers.

Thugs Cause Mayhem in Uptown Charlotte Overnight!

Early this morning, after the Speed Street event ended, all chaos broke out in uptown Charlotte as CMPD Officers responded to several confrontations in the N College St. & E Trade St. area throughout the night.  Police say several groups of 50 or more people began fighting with each other and refused police commands to disperse.  Police say it is estimated that approximately 25,000 - 30,000 people were in the four block area of uptown- from the intersection of College Street and Trade Street.

CMPD also stated that additional groups of people gathered around the CATS' Transit Center who were not participating in any of the Speed Street events.  Approximately 70 arrests were made, including nearly 15 juvenile arrests.  The majority of the arrests were made for disorderly conduct, fighting, assault and impeding traffic.

CMPD Officers noted several people were flashing gang signs, challenging others as well as the police officers.  In addition, they were attempting to block sidewalks and impeding vehicle traffic. The center city was staffed with on-duty officers from the Central Division and officers working in a secondary employment capacity for the 'Speed Street' event.  Based upon the disruptions, additional pre-staged Civil Emergency Unit Officers were called in from surrounding divisions to assist in managing the crowds.

It looks like Charlotte's 'near riot' made the 'Drudge Report' today:

** If you think the fights downtown (or elsewhere in Charlotte) are a random occurrence, check out some of the video coverage posted online.  It is especially disheartening to see so many videos of violence in our schools as well as the lack of respect for Police Officers by so many Charlotteans.  Wake up people!!!  (Special thanks to Cedar Posts & Barbwire Fences blog) for some of the links provided:

WANTED by VCAT: Anthony Mario Pettiford

Wanted: Anthony Pettiford
The CMPD VCAT (Violent Criminal Apprehension Taskforce) is once again searching for 23-year old Anthony PettifordI'd love to know why this man was even eligible for 'electronic monitoring' considering the violent nature of his crimes and his prior attempt to flee the state last year!

In the past two years, Pettiford has been linked to several robberies, including two pawn shop robberies he committed with his brother in 2010.  After the robberies, the two brothers fled to Buffalo, NY, where they were eventually captured on June 23, 2010.  Pettiford was transported back to Charlotte, arriving on July 15, 2010.

He was released from jail on September 23, 2010 and the jail record states he was released on 'electronic monitoring.'  It would be interesting to know what happened to the robbery charges from last year because I do not see any future court dates for those charges nor does he have any NC Dept of Corrections record- which means he has no convictions.  I'm assuming our DA's dismissed charges after all the work the CMPD, VCAT, Buffalo Police, Media, etc. spent to try and locate him.

Pettiford was arrested again on April 26, 2011 on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy and possession of marijuana.  His original bond was set at $60,500 (secured) but the lucky duck was released two days later on 'electronic monitoring.'   One month later and Pettiford cut off his electronic monitoring device this morning on Avalon Avenue.  He is wanted on outstanding warrants for armed robbery and interfering with an electronic monitoring device.

If you have any information, please call VCAT @ 704-336-8228 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Three Men Sentenced in Court for Sex Crimes

Tomeyko Bost
Tomeyko Bost, 46, plead guilty to attempted first degree sex offense on a child.  Bost was sentenced to 12-15 years in prison.
(Note: Bost's 'original charges' on May 11, 2010 were six counts of statutory rape/sex offense >=6yr.  In addition, Bost was arrested on April 1, 2010 for assault on a female w/ cutting instrument & communicating threats.  After his arrest for the child sex charges, he was released and re-jailed on October 20, 2010 for a protective violation. In my opinion, this is not a man who deserved a plea deal!)

Randy Wilson
Randy Wilson, 41, plead guilty to 1) second degree rape, 2) assault by strangulation and 3) possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine. Wilson was sentenced to 10 1/2 - 13 1/2 years in prison.
(Note: The convictions above were only for 1 of his 14 arrests (and charges associated with them) in Mecklenburg County since July of 2009.  The only other conviction was for a B&E he committed on May 28, 2010.  Another habitual offender who should never have been offered any deals or less time because they never prosecuted his other crimes... He should have been off the streets long before he committed a rape!)

Tyquan Carmichael, 19, plead guilty to statutory rape. Carmichael was sentenced to 4 1/2 - 6 1/2 years in prison.
(Note: His original arrest from last May indicates he committed a sex offense and/or raped a 5 year old.  Does his sentence match his crime?)

NC DOT Announces 'Click It or Ticket" Campaign

The N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary announced today the launch of a state-wide “Click It or Ticket” campaign to crack down on motorists who are not wearing their seat belts.  Regular seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes.  In 2010, 425 unbuckled motorists died in North Carolina.

In 2010, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that North Carolina’s seat belt usage rate was 89.7%. The state’s usage rate was 65% when the program started 18 years ago.  State and local law enforcement officers will increase seat belt enforcement activities during the campaign, which runs May 23-June 5.

Click It or Ticket” is administered by the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program.  GHSP will sponsor a local “Click It or Ticket” night on Saturday, July 16 at 7:15pm @ The Charlotte Knights stadium.   * View GHSP Media Release

Habitual Breaking & Entering Suspect Arrested

Macieo White
On May 23, 2011, officers responded to a call for service at the Eastover Ridge Apartments located at 3431 Eastover Ridge Dr. A neighbor called 911 stating they observed a suspicious man attempting to break into cars.

When officers arrived, they observed the suspect standing next to a vehicle with its trunk open. The officers questioned Macieo White, who admitted the vehicle did not belong to him and that he entered the unlocked car without permission or authority.

After further conversation, the suspect admitted to entering approximately ten vehicles at the apartment complex and proceeded to identify the vehicles he entered. The suspect was on probation for burglary at the time of the break-in’s. Providence Division Officers arrested Macieo Steven White. and charged him with breaking and entering.  White has at least 3 prior arrests for the same type of crime.

Since the neighbor (witness) was willing to get involved and call police when they noticed something suspicious, White would more than likely still be free to victimize more of our citizens.  CMPD continues to urge citizens to observe and report suspicious activity by calling 911. Anyone with information on unsolved cases may forward their anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Charlotte City Council Unanimously Passes 'Noise Ordinance'

On Monday night, The Charlotte City Council unanimously passed a new noise ordinance after city residents started to complain about the continuous noise associated with certain bars in Charlotte.  The 'old' noise ordinance was over 25-years old.

In the first draft of the revised noise ordinance, the city proposed several changes that had bar/club owners in an uproar.  The council met them half way and the new ordinance bans outdoor music over 85 decibels on Friday and Saturday from 8 am - 11pm.  After 11pm, the new ordinance states the noise must decrease to 60 decibels from 11 om- 2 am on Friday and Saturday nights. No outdoor music will be allowed between 2 am- 8am.

The city council will review the new ordinance in six months to see if the new ordinance is working.  The punishment for a noise violation is a $1,000 fine against bars and restaurants that don't comply with the ordinance.  For a second offense, a business could lose the right to have any outdoor music for 18 months. The changes will take effect between June 15th and August 1st, depending on the size of the venue.

DID YOU KNOW?

USE COMMON SENSE WHEN PARKING AND EXITING YOUR VEHICLE:
* Take your key; don't leave it in or on your vehicle.
* Close and lock all windows and doors when you park.
* Park in well-lit areas - in a garage, if possible.
* Never leave valuables in your vehicle...  Some of the most popular stolen items left in vehicles are: GPS units, iPods, laptops, and purses.

Three Men Busted in Bait Car in Westover Division

The CMPD's Auto Theft Unit continues to utilize multiple methods to continue to reduce auto thefts in Charlotte. One of the ongoing operations involves the use of 'bait vehicles.'

CMPD's bait vehicle fleet is a broad representation of the cars stolen most often in Charlotte.  The bait cars are placed in locations and with methods determined to have an increased risks of theft.  Due to the overwhelming evidence in bait vehicle thefts and arrests, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney aggressively prosecutes these individuals.

On May 11th, a deployed bait vehicle was stolen in the Westover Division at 9:12 pm.  Within minutes, the vehicle was surrounded and safely disabled as designed, resulting in the arrest of three individuals. One of the suspects arrested was a juvenile, so I am unable to publish the name. The two adult suspects that were arrested and charged are: DeAngelo McAdams and Dedrick Flowers.

Based on the investigation, a fourth suspect is being sought for questioning at this time.  Anyone with information on the identity of this 4th individual is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704.334.1600.  This marks the 49th arrest since the 'bait vehicle' program was started in Charlotte.
